The Religious of the Sacred Heart conducted St. Michael’s Convent School from 1826 to 1926 along the River Road in Convent, Louisiana. After the school closed, the building was torn down. The Sisters are attempting to document and locate the descendants of those enslaved at the convent. Some of the family names of their descendants may be Ayres, Clem, DePass, Dugas, Felton, Gabriel, Gay, Johnson, King, Poche, Shief, and Steward. Anyone who believes they may be a descendant of these enslaved persons or is interested in assisting with this effort is asked to contact Emory Webre at [email protected]
Welcome Father Christopher L. Krymski, O.S.M. as he leads our Parish Mission this week, beginning on Monday, February 26th and ending on Wednesday, February 28th. The mission begins each evening at 7:00 P.M. in church. The Mission theme this year is “We Join Our Mother of Sorrows at the Cross of Jesus Christ.”
We began our Lenten journey this past Wednesday on Ash Wednesday. As we enter the first full week of Lent, this First Sunday of Lent we hear the shortest story of Christ’s temptation in the desert. The Gospel of Mark does not elaborate on Satan’s temptations, but Jesus obviously resisted successfully.
We, in the metropolitan New Orleans area are in full swing of the Mardi Gras season. Parades and carnival balls will reach its peak on Tuesday—Mardi Gras. For the rest of the country, it is a typical work and school week, but for us here, we have time off from school and work. If you go to the parades—please be safe!
Welcome to all Alumni of St. Peter Catholic School. The annual Alumni Day and Msgr. Eyraud Mass is today, beginning with the 11:00 A.M. Mass. Following the Mass, we will process to the tomb of Msgr.
