The season of Easter concludes today with the Solemnity of Pentecost. On Pentecost, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room in Jerusalem. The descent of the Holy Spirit marks the beginning of the Church. As a community of faith, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to “go out into the world to proclaim the Gospel message.”
The second collection this weekend is for the Church in Africa.
On Saturday, May 25th, Sister Mary Joel, O.P., will be here at St. Peter to celebrate her 90th birthday. She will join us at the 5:00 P.M. Vigil Mass. There will be a reception in the KC Hall following the Mass. St. Peter holds a special place in Sister’s heart. She spent nine years at St. Peter School as a teacher and principal. Through her years here, she has maintained lasting friendship with many parishioners. She was my 7th grade Social Studies teacher and became the principal in my 8th grade year. I pray that God will continue to bless Sister Mary Joel, O.P. as she celebrates her birthday with her St. Peter Family.
There will be a special collection the weekend of June 8th - 9 th for a new air conditioner. The outside unit near the cry room was replaced a few years ago. Now, it’s time to replace the inside unit. The cost is approximately $30,000. Once we have reached $15,000, we will order the unit. I ask for your support with purchasing this new unit. The summer months are getting hotter, and we need all a/c’s to be in tiptop shape to cool off the church.
