Today is the fiftieth (50th) day of Easter. The Church concludes the Easter season on the Solemnity of Pentecost. In fire and wind, the Spirit of the Lord descends with God’s seven -fold gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. From the time of our Baptism, we have been blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit operates in us, guiding us, and strengthening us on our mission.
The second collection this weekend is for the Peter’s Pence collection of the Holy Father, Pope Francis.
I want to THANK YOU, the parishioners of St. Peter in honoring me last weekend on the 40 th anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. I would especially like to thank Deacon Richard and Diane Abbondante, the Pastoral Council, the Ladies Altar Society, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as members of the 4 th Degree, Archbishop Blenk Assembly 318, and the 11:00 A.M. choir for leading us in song at Mass. It was a very memorable day for me. May God continue to shine His light on us, the parish of St. Peter.
With the celebration of Pentecost, the Church returns to Ordinary Time during the week. For the next two Sundays, we will celebrate the special feasts of Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi.
