Today the Church celebrates the Epiphany of the Lord—the manifestation to the Gentiles of the life of God Himself. God, who in the person of Jesus, shared in our humanity in order to allow us to share in His divinity forever. The Magi (Wise Men), with their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, paid Jesus honor, respect, and praise. Like the Magi, each person’s journey to Christ has its own direction and trail; and for each who pays Christ homage and offers the treasures one holds, the reward is the same: a path away from the dangers of sin and death and toward life.
As we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, today is also the “official” start of the Mardi-Gras season. With Lent beginning late this year, there will be a longer carnival season. We have longer opportunities to eat King cake.
The second collection this weekend is for the Building Maintenance Fund. I ask for your continued support of the collection.
I invited all married couples, especially the young married couples from our parish to a presentation by Deacon Richard and Diane Abbondante on Saturday, January 26th from 1:00-4:00 P.M. in the Lacour Center. The topic is “Living a Sacramental Lifestyle in a Secular World.” Please see the bulletin insert for further information.
