Dear Parishioners;
Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over forty-six million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. By supporting this collection, you give people a hand up, and not a hand out. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/chd/collection.
This weekend the second collection is for the annual Msgr. Eyraud Education Fund. I ask for your continued support in this collection as a way of living the memory of our beloved pastor, Msgr. Eyraud. Speaking of Msgr. Eyraud, Saturday, November 11th was his birthday. May he continue to shine his light upon St. Peter Parish.
Have you noticed the new mats at all the entrances of the church? A very big “THANK YOU” to the Ladies Altar Society. They purchased new mats for the inside and outside entrances of the church.
Before you know it, Thanksgiving Day will be upon us soon. I invite everyone to the special Mass on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd. The Mass will be at 8:00 A.M. There will be no 6:30 A.M. that day. No matter what our situations in life, we all need to thank our God for the blessings He has bestowed on us, individually and communally.
Remember to turn in your non-perishable food items this weekend. The food collected will be distributed to the needy families of our community the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas.
As I mentioned in my column last week, if you have not filled out a new census form, I urge you to fill one out ASAP. The archbishop, through the Synod, has mandated that each parish have an updated census. If you know someone who lives down your street and is Catholic, and does not attend Mass, I invite you to have them fill out a census form too. If we do not receive an updated census form from you soon, volunteers from the Church will be contacting you to update your information.
Have a Blessed Week!
