Dear Parishioners,
This week, November 5 – 11, 2017, the Church celebrates National Vocation Awareness Week. Did you know that in our country, compared to fifty (50) years ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 130,000 fewer religious sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has continued to grow steadily. Many factors have contributed to the decline: growing secularism, a lengthened period of adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During this week of National Vocational Awareness week, please continue to pray that young people from our parish community and throughout the country will hear and respond to God’s call.
The second collection this weekend is for the Building Maintenance Fund. I ask for your continued support in this collection.
Monday, November 6th, Archbishop Alfred Hughes, archbishop emeritus, will be here at St. Peter to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Mass begins at 7:00 P.M. All parishioners are invited to attend. St. Peter Parish has 12 young men and women, and 1 adult; St. Hubert has 5 young women and men who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s a time for us to remember to help those within our community who are in need of food. The baskets for non-perishable food items will be in the sanctuary this weekend and next weekend.
Saturday, November 11th is Veterans Day. We give honor to all men and women who are, or who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As we celebrate Veterans Day, let us pray for all members of the Armed Forces, especially those stationed in hostile environments of the world.
We also remember our beloved former pastor, Monsignor Jean M. Eyraud, who’s birthday is on November 11th. May Monsignor Eyraud continue to intercede for his beloved parish of St. Peter.
Several months ago, parishioners were asked to complete a census for St. Peter Parish. The response, however, has not been that great. We have less than 200 households who have completed a new census form. The archbishop, through the Synod, has asked that every parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans have an updated census. If you have not completed a census, forms are available at each of the entrances of church or you can go on the website and complete it. On the front page of the web site, there are detailed instructions on how to complete the census electronically.
Have a Blessed Week!
