Today, throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans, church parishes are celebrating FAMILY DAY. The purpose of Family Day is to provide the parishes an opportunity to gather their families and encourage them to renew their life together, strengthen friendships, form new ones, and to cultivate an appreciation for the importance and goodness of family life.
The theme this year is “Seek the Lord at Home.” We encounter God at Church on Sunday. We encounter Him in the Adoration Chapel, on mission trips, and on retreats; but can we encounter God in our homes? Are we even supposed to? We spend a lot of time in our homes; much more time than we spend in Church or the chapel. We spend more time, much more time with our spouses and children than with our priests and fellow parishioners, the people we’re used to being with when we “typically” encounter God. This year’s Family Day points us toward the highest good—the active presence of God in our families. Let us seek the Lord where He can be found! The Family Day activities will begin following the 11:00 A.M. Mass. I encourage all St. Peter Parishioners and friends of St. Peter Parish to join me for this year’s Family Day. I hope to see you there!
The second collection next weekend, Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st will be for the Building Maintenance Fund.
The Blessing of Pets will take place on Sunday, October 8th at 10:00 A.M. at the back of Church, near the Veterans Flagpole. Please bring your pets for a special blessing as we honor Saint Francis of Assisi and ask for his intercession in keeping our pets healthy and safe.
