We gather today to celebrate the Eucharist, as we do each Sunday, to be nourished by Christ’s Body and Blood. In the Gospel, we hear one of Jesus’ most familiar miracles, the multiplication of the loaves and fish. Every time we celebrate the Eucharist we witness another miracle---the transformation of bread and wine into Jesus’ Body and Blood.
For the next several weeks, the Gospel will be taken from the sixth chapter of Saint John’s Gospel. This chapter is called the “discourse on the Bread of Life.” The chapter begins with today’s account Jesus feeding thousands by multiplying the loaves and fish. We also hear in our first reading today about Elisha, “a man of God,” who feeds a hundred people with twenty small loaves.
Our monthly Adoration and Benediction is this Wednesday, August 1st. Adoration begins at 1:00 P.M. and concludes with Benediction at 6:00 P.M. All parishioners are invited to spend some time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
The second collection next weekend is for the Building-Maintenance Fund. I ask for your continued support of this collection to help defray the rising cost of maintenance on our beautiful, aging buildings.
This is the last week for summer vacation. School begins next week.
