In today’s Gospel we hear the story of the feeding of the five thousand. This story is found in all of the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Beginning this weekend until the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time (August 22) the Gospel will be from the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. Chapter Six of John’s Gospel is known as “The Bread of Life” discourse. Saint John devotes an entire chapter on Jesus as the Bread of Life—the Eucharist.
Today is World Day for Grandparents and Elderly. Pope Francis inaugurated this special day in honor of grandparents and the elderly in January after praying the angelus. It will be celebrated on the Fourth Sunday in July which is closest to the Feasts of Saints Anne and Joachim, the grandparents of Jesus. A prayer for this special day is found as a bulletin insert.
CONGRATULATIONS to Jenna Hickman and Joshua Beadle. They were honored on Saturday, July 24th at the Archdiocesan Youth Leadership Celebration. They represented St. Peter Parish as the Outstanding Youth of our Parish community. These two young people are very deserving of this award for all that they do for St. Peter Parish.

Because the missionary is not able to be with us in person for the missionary appeal due to COVID-19 restrictions, I will read his missionary appeal.
