Pope Francis has often used the phrase “missionary disciples.” In his first apostolic exhortation,
The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudiuum) the Holy Father says: “Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are ‘disciples’ and ‘missionaries,’ but rather that we are always ‘missionary disciples.’ The Holy Father continually calls us back to Christ in the form of ongoing discipleship, and then impelling us to mission,to take what we have been given out to a world that needs this witness and message of love. Pope Francis has said: “
The people of God is a people of disciples because we receive faith and a missionary people because w pass on the faith.”
This weekend our parish will take up the
134th annual National Black and Indian Mission Collection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast. Help spread the Gospel of Jesus by supporting the National Black and Indian Collection.
To the many parishioners who know Sister Mary Joel, O.P., if you haven’t heard yet, she will be leaving Rosaryville. Sister has decided, before she gets “too old” to move to the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in St. Catherine, Kentucky. Let us keep Sister Mary Joel in our prayers as she begins her next journey in life.
Sister Mary Joel has often spoke of her fondness for St. Peter Parish. She spent nine (9) years here. Three as a teacher and six as principal. She taught me in the seventh grade.
The second collection next weekend will be for the Church roof.
