Today is the Solemnity of the Ascension. Up until recently the Ascension was celebrated forty days after Easter, thus celebrating the Ascension on Thursday. However, in most areas of the United States, Europe, and Australia, the Vatican gave approval for ecclesiastical provinces to transfer the feast to the Seventh Sunday of Easter.
On the day Jesus ascended to heaven to remain with His Father, He commanded His disciples to carry on His ministry—proclaiming the good news to the whole world. Now we are that whole world. Now we are those disciples. Now we too are commissioned to go out and spread the good news!
This year we will be able to celebrate the endof the-school year activities. On Monday, May 17th , the seventh graders from St. Peter School will have their Promotional exercises, beginning at 6:30 P.M. in church. On Friday, May 21st, the Kindergarten will have their “graduation” in church at 9:00 A.M.
The second collection next weekend will be the annual Peter’s Pence Collection. By participating in the Peter’s Pence Collection, you join the Holy Father’s efforts to show mercy to all in two ways: you support the ongoing activities of the Holy See, and you contribute to the charitable works of the Holy Father on behalf of those who are most in need. The second collection will be on May 22-23.
