HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Today, the Church is born! Alleluia! Alleluia!! As the Apostles and Mary, the Mother of God and Mother of the Church were together in prayer, not knowing what was about to happen, but they trusted in God to act. As the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles, disciples, and the Blessed Mother, they were able to proclaim God’s word in a way that everyone could understand, no matter their culture, their country, or their language.
The Holy Spirit comes to us through the sacraments, through the teaching and ministry of the Church, and through charismatic experiences. The historic event meets the present reality of the Holy Spirit in our lives. For the Universal Catholic community, Pentecost is one of the days on which we can celebrate our birth as a community, as the People of God. As we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, we pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to enable us to use our gifts and talents that God has given us for the benefit of His Church.
Today is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a worldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.
June 16th is Father’s Day. The youth of the parish will have a Bake sale at all Masses that weekend. Treat Dad to a dessert.
