Dear Parishioners;
Today, on this Fourth Sunday of Easter, is Good Shepherd Sunday. The responsorial psalm today is Psalm 23 which portrays the Lord God as a shepherd and the Gospel provides an image of Jesus as the gate for the sheep.
It is also World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is a time set by the Church throughout the world to pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated religious life. We, here at St. Peter, pray the prayer for vocations daily at Mass. I would like you to take some extra time during the day to say an extra prayer for vocations.
The second collection this weekend is for the retired priests fund of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
First Communion will be celebrated today at the 11:00 A.M. Mass. Please pray for these young members of our community and their families that they will continue to cherish the gift that Jesus gave the Church: His Body and His Blood in the Eucharist.
Next weekend, the Bishops of the United States has asked for a one-time collection for the completion of our nation’s premier shrine to our Blessed Mother, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, America’s Catholic Church, located in Washington, D.C.
All parishioners are invited to attend the special Mass on Monday, May 15th at 7:00 P.M. as the Archdiocese of New Orleans honors Mrs. Gertrude “Gert” Guidry, with the REGINA MATRUM AWARD, the mother of the year award. The Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. A reception will follow the Mass at the Msgr. Eyraud Knights of Columbus hall.
Have a Blessed Easter Week!
Fr. John
