Dear Parishioners;
HAPPY EASTER! ALLELUIA!! This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! Yes, this is truly a glorious day…We celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus the Christ, not for one day, but for fifty (50) days. Easter is the center of our faith. We profess and believe that Jesus rose triumphantly from the grave and broke the chains of death. May this day be filled with joy for you and your families.
The special second collection today is for the church roof. I ask for your continued generosity.
A special announcement was made last week at the 5:00 P.M. Vigil Mass by Mrs. Fern Carr, the president of the Council of Catholic Schools Cooperative Clubs (CCSCC). Mrs. Gertrude “Gert” Guidry is the recipient of the 2017 Regina Matrum Award. The Regina Matrum Award is a prestigious award that recognizes the most outstanding Catholic Mother of the year. The Council of Catholic Schools Cooperative Clubs of the Archdiocese of New Orleans has been presenting this award since 1947.
To my knowledge this is the first time that a parishioner from St. Peter Parish or the River Parish area is the recipient of the Regina Matrum Award. There will be a special Mass here at St. Peter on Monday, May 15 with Archbishop Gregory Aymond as the celebrant. More information will be forth coming. Once again, Congratulations, Mrs. Gertrude “Gert” Guidry.
I wish you and your families a very Blessed Easter.
Happy Easter,
Fr. John
