The Religious of the Sacred Heart conducted St. Michael’s Convent School from 1826 to 1926 along the River Road in Convent, Louisiana. After the school closed, the building was torn down. The Sisters are attempting to document and locate the descendants of those enslaved at the convent. Some of the family names of their descendants may be Ayres, Clem, DePass, Dugas, Felton, Gabriel, Gay, Johnson, King, Poche, Shief, and Steward. Anyone who believes they may be a descendant of these enslaved persons or is interested in assisting with this effort is asked to contact Emory Webre at [email protected]
