We begin the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd . The annual observance of Lent is a special season for the ascent to the holy mountain of Easter. Though its twofold theme of repentance and baptism, the season of Lent disposes both the catechumens and the faithful to celebrate the paschal mystery. Catechumens are led to the Sacraments of Initiation by means of the rite of election, the scrutinies, and catechesis. This year we have one young man who will receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Tavin Jackson, a seventhgrade student at St. Peter School will be fully initiated in the Roman Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age, but not yet 59. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years or older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent.
At all the entrances of the church is the booklet, My Daily Visitor, Lent 2023. It’s the same format as the Advent booklet. Please take one as an aid for you in the Lenten season.
On Ash Wednesday, Mass with the distribution of ashes will be at 6:30 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. A Liturgy of the Word Prayer Service with distribution of ashes will be at 12:10 P.M.
Please keep the Lenten schedule in a convenient place so that you can make reference to it for additional Masses, Reconciliation (Confession), Mission, etc.
