With the conclusion of the Christmas/Epiphany season, the Church begins Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is described as a time for growth and maturation—a time in which the mystery of Christ is called to penetrate ever more deeply into history until all things are finally caught up in Christ. The goal, toward which all history is directed, is represented by the final Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
Today, we hear the Gospel of the wedding feast at Cana. This Gospel does not occur every year in the Lectionary and it celebrates the first miracle of Jesus—the changing of water into wine. Mary is there at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, and she is there at the end—at the foot of the cross.
The second collection this weekend is for the Church roof. I ask for your generosity.
First Reconciliation will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26 th at 10:00 A.M. in church. I ask you to keep our young students in your prayer as they celebrate their First Reconciliation.
Once again, I am inviting all married couples, especially our young married couples to a talk given by Deacon Richard and Diane Abbondante on Saturday, January 26 th from 1:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. in the Lacour Center. The theme of the talk is Living a Sacramental Lifestyle in a Secular World.
The last week of January is the national celebration of Catholic Schools Week. A few years ago, Archbishop Aymond instituted a second collection for every parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans to support the Champions of Catholic Education fund. This fund provides assistance to children whose families may not be able to afford Catholic school tuition. The second collection will be the weekend of January 26-27, 2019.
