This weekend, parishes throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans and in the United States will take up the 138th annual National Black and Indian Mission Collection. The support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast. The Archdiocese of New Orleans does receive grants from this collection.
The second collection this weekend will be for the National Black and Indian Missions of the United States.
Saint Pope John-Paul II in his encyclical, Redemptoris Missio, said, “All Churches, both young and old, are called to give and to receive in the context of the universal mission, and none should be closed to the needs of others. Each year all Churches participate in the Missionary Cooperative Plan. The goals are a.) to educate the people of the Archdiocese regarding the missionary work of Christ, b.) to solicit prayers and financial support for the missionaries, and c.) to harmonize missionary efforts and guarantee a fair distribution of aid. Next weekend, July 23rd and 24th, a representative of the Apostles of Jesus Missionaries will be here at St. Peter to speak at all the Masses.
