Every religion has its book of the law, and today’s First Reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the voice of God in those commandments and statues. Today we are challenged to love God with our entire being and our neighbor as ourselves. On the face of it, these are difficult commandments to live out day after day, but Moses reminds us that they are written in our hearts. Our task is to listen to God’s Word and carry it out at each moment, in each situation we face.
The second collection this weekend is for the Church roof. I ask for your continued generosity.
Our community is blessed with a lot of local talent that is portrayed in the summer plays that are presented by River Parish Community Theatre and the St. John Theatre. Mary Poppins is playing now at St. Peter School. For more information, please go to www.riverparishtheatre.org for ticket sales and dates of performances. St. John Theatre will present Grease this summer. For ticket sales and dates of performances please see their website at www.stjohntheatre.com. We don’t have to drive into New Orleans or Baton Rouge to see top notch performances of great plays, we have great talent right here in the River Parishes.
