Throughout this season of Ordinary Time, we are reminded of our call to discipleship and the cost of that call. Self-sacrifice and proclamation of the good news are the crux of the message. As followers of Jesus, we are called to spread the good news and care for those in need.
Today, we welcome to St. Peter Parish, Father Roberto Sanchez from the Diocese of Virac, Philippines. He will share with us the missionary needs of his diocese. Saint Pope John Paul II said that “all churches, both young and old, are called to give and receive in the context of the universal mission, and none should be closed to the needs of others. (Redemptoris Missio).
There are three goals to the Missionary Cooperative Plan: 1) to educate the people of the Archdiocese regarding the missionary work of Christ, 2) to solicit prayers and financial support for the missionaries, 3) to harmonize missionary efforts and guarantee a fair distribution of aid.
The second collection this weekend will be for the Missionary needs of the Diocese of Virac, Philippines.
I will be on vacation this week, June 25 through June 30. There will be no 6:30 A.M. Mass while I am gone.
